History of the English penny (1154-1485)
Together with the production of half pennies and farthings, England had at last an adequate supply of varying denominations which benefited both internal trade and trade with other countries in Europe where English coins were readily acceptable.
During Edward IV's first reign the problem of English coins' face value being worth less than their metal value in Europe recurred.
During this period large quantities of inferior quality European coins circulated alongside the high-quality English coins, producing a real-life example of Gresham's law as English coins were smuggled to the continent to be melted down, alloyed with other metals and remanufactured as fake pennies and returned to England.

Pound - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Over time, the various keepers of the standards redefined pounds in terms of the metric system (which has happened in case of the avoirdupois and troy pounds as well as the metric pounds), they were defined in terms of the kilogram, not the dyne or the newton.
Despite the use of the pound term persisting as a slang term no scale or measuring device exists in metric countries that measures in pounds.
All scales are in grams and a pound must be determined by weighing the product in grams.

'A Brief History of the Penny'
By law the value of the coin corresponded to the weight of silver but often pennies were not worth their face value either because of dishonest minting or the fraudulent practice of clipping small parts off the edge of the coins.
To comply with the connection between the face value and the intrinsic value of the metal the twopence was exactly twice the weight of the penny.
By the time the last bronze pennies were struck (in 1967) the composition had slightly altered to 9.4 grams of copper 97%, tin 0.5%, and zinc 2.5%.

 Units: P
Paper is described as, say, 24 pound weight if one ream (500 sheets) cut in a standard size (called the base size or basis size) has a mass of 24 pounds.
psig is a symbol for pound per square inch gauge; this means that the pressure has been read from a gauge which actually measures the difference between the pressure of the fluid and the pressure of the atmosphere.
For bond paper, the base size is 17 inches by 22 inches (43.18 by 55.88 centimeters), exactly four times the area of an 8.5 inch by 11 inch sheet.

Dog and Kennel Magazine English Setter Breed Profile
Living with an English setter means never having to say you are lonely.
English setters can be trained to do most anything other breeds do except herding.
(A setter would instinctively chase rather than surround a flock.) They can master obedience exercises, but training an English setter is more work than is training some other breeds.

 Units: Customary Units
In traditional English law the various pound weights are related by stating all of them as multiples of the grain, which was originally the weight of a single barleycorn.
Thus the gallon, the basic English unit of volume, was originally the volume of eight pounds of wheat.
In 1592, Parliament settled this question by setting the length of the mile at 8 furlongs, which works out to 1760 yards or 5280 feet.

Because the English Toy Terrier is facing extinction, the Kennel Club (UK) has opened its Stud Book to allow Toy Manchester Terriers which fit the breed standard of the English Toy Terrier to be transferred to English Toy Terrier breed clubs.
The breed standards for the English Toy Terrier and the Toy Manchester Terrier (which was developed in the United States) are very similar, but there are subtle differences.
Further, the breed standard of the English Toy Terrier is often interpreted to describe a lighter, finer dog than the type acceptable under the Toy Manchester Terrier breed standard.

Encyclopedia4U - British coin Guinea - Encyclopedia Article
To avoid confusion with gilded silver coins the edge was milled to deter clipping or filing (and to distinguish it from the silver half-crown which had edge lettering) -- until 1669 the milling was perpendicular to the coin, giving vertical grooves, while from 1670 the milling was diagonal to the coin.
In the early part of the reign the edge of the coin was milled diagonally, but from 1739 following the activities of a particularly bold gang of guinea filers for whom a reward was posted, the milling was changed to produce the shape of a chevron or arrow-head.
The edge of the coins are milled diagonally.

English Toy Spaniels: What's Good About 'Em? What's Bad About 'Em?
Too many people acquire a toy breed puppy without understanding how incredibly fragile a toy breed is. You can seriously injure or kill an English Toy Spaniel puppy by stepping on him or by sitting on him when he's curled under a blanket or pillow, where he frequently likes to sleep.
English Toy Spaniels must always be kept indoors, in a safely fenced yard, or on-leash -- they are just too easy to injure when not under your complete control.
English Toy Spaniels need extensive exposure to people and to unusual sights and sounds so that their natural "softness" doesn't become shyness, which is very difficult to live with.
