Mexican industrial production, the real value of the peso and Mexican trade with the rest of the world are estimated with a second-order autoregressive model that includes a dummy variable for the peso crisis.
Again, we use forecasts from the model of U.S. trade to estimate the effects of the peso devaluation and its aftermath on total Texas exports to Mexico.
Likewise, Mexican real gross domestic product increased 5.1 percent and the real value of the peso was quite high in 1994; both factors would have boosted U.S. exports to Mexico.

Mexico now stood vindicated, an exemplary success story and a model for others to emulate.
As the Mexican equity market was the recipient of much of the net portfolio investment inflows, the Mexican stock market boomed--the Bolsa index rose 436 percent in dollar terms over the period 1990-93 (IME 1995, 53).
Contrary to expectations, this supposedly modest 15 percent devaluation triggered a massive speculative run against the peso as markets concluded that the announced peg could not be maintained.

THE MEXICAN PESO CRISIS-DOUGLAS W. ARNER
Debt crises may be the result of liquidity crises, as well as the result of factors beyond the countries’ control, such as the various oil shocks of the 1970s and 1980s.
In circumstances such as the Peso Crisis, in which financial markets essentially cease to function in terms of access, markets cannot be relied on to provide necessary liquidity, and for this reason, an international response is probably necessary for the stability of the international and domestic financial systems.
During the Peso Crisis, Mexico was faced with a temporary liquidity crisis due to a large number of intertwined factors, some caused by problems within or exacerbated by Mexico, but other not, e.g., increases in U.S. interest rates.
