 News from New Zealand
No critiques are allowed to be given except when specifically requested from the judge at a specialist club show.
New Zealand has a very tough judges examination system involving theoretical and practical examinations, but a judge sits for a whole group at a time.
Our dogs are judged to the official NZKC standard for each breed, which for the majority of the breeds would be the English standard (For Roughs we use the old British standard!).

Our Dogs - Latest news stories from the world of show dogs
We had a good flight to New Zealand from Australia but unfortunately there was a delay on leaving which meant that we were an hour late arriving.
The last time I judged in New Zealand, I did feel that I had made the courses a little too difficult so this time I did make them much more open and at the same time there is no doubt that the standard had improved.
The original intention had been for Mary to take a training day in New Zealand as well as judging, but that was before we realised she would be judging for three days which means three days walking around an Obedience Ring on her feet.

 Our Dogs - News Section
"The Kennel Club allows customarily docked breeds to be shown with or without their tails being docked and the Breed Standards issued by The Kennel Club indicate this.
Some standards (but by no means all of the traditionally docked breeds) call for tails to be "docked"; "short" or "short or docked" but it is not any more of a requirement than total conformity to every other aspect of the standard, which no dog does.
The NZKC’s website docking feature may be found at: http://www.nzkc.org.nz/taildocking.html

Endangered Dogs Defence and Rescue Canine Legislation Update New Zealand
Rather it would create a new set of non-compliance and enforcement problems.
The practicalities associated with establishing related databases, to allow information transfer between councils are also significant stumbling blocks to the usefulness of micro-chip technology.
Local Government New Zealand does not believe people who do not register dogs currently, will micro-chip them in the future, unless that task is made very easy for them to comply with and it is affordable.

In earlier times, the breed's temperament was less than sterling which made it a good herding dog in areas where wolves were a threat to flocks of sheep.
Although the origin of the breed is uncertain, the Old English Sheepdog has existed in England for at least two hundred years.

US Trade Representative Rob Portman has offered to cut the most trade-distorting forms of support by 60%.

Make tail docking illegal and that is when we open up the possibility of inhumane procedures carried out by untrained owners”, says Ray Greer, President of the New Zealand Kennel Club.

I have tried to point out that the whole concept of BSL is wrong but the thrust of this article is targeted at misrepresentation and its deadly effects.
At the request of several members of New Zealand's Staffordshire Bull Terrier Clubs via the KC Breed Liaison Officer, Caroline Kisko, Secretary of the (UK) Kennel Club has been in contact with Mr George Mills at the New Zealand Kennel Club to offer any support or advice in the current BSL debate.
The offer has been positively received and Mr Mills has confirmed that the NZKC is strongly committed to fight proposals for BSL in their country.

Just to keep you informed i am planning to contact the kennel club in the next few weeks to try and get them to form a breed club......this will not mean the breed is regarded as a pedigree but it will be a step up from a cross bred!
