Collapse of the Philippine peso: Who's the culprit?
A stable currency exchange is a guarantee that the “principal” the capitalists sink into the economy will easily convert into more dollars that they can ship out whenever they want.
Already awash with dollars they had acquired previously, and disposing of billions of pesos to propel another rise in the value of the dollar, the financial speculators gained windfall profits by the end of the day.
If the Philippine exchange rate does not stabilise in the next few months (that is, if the foreign currency reserves continue to deplete), it may be a signal that the financial vultures are preparing to ship their money back to their base or to other profitable ventures outside the country.

Sun.Star Breaking News: No contagion effect seen in Southeast Asia from Philippine peso crisis (2nd update, 3:56 pm)
The peso averaged 55.38 to the dollar on the Philippine Dealing System Wednesday.
Political concerns have dragged the peso by as much as six percent from its high in May and the embattled unit has come within striking distance of its historic low of 55.75 to the US dollar posted nearly two and a half years ago.
Unlike the peso, whose weakness has been largely blamed on internal political problems, the currencies of the key neighboring Southeast Asian countries have been stable or appreciating, dealers said.

In our view, the objective of a tamer inflation and a more stable peso will more than compensate businesses for the effects of the modest increase in interest rates.
This is also a preemptive move on the part of the BSP in response to higher global inflationary expectations (due to high oil prices) and price pressures that may arise from the implementation of EVAT.
